EXCITING PLANS FOR THE NEW COMMUNITY CENTRE AT PROUT BRIDGE
Earlier this year our charity, which currently runs the youth clubs in the town, began formulating plans to develop a fantastic, vibrant community hub in the existing building at 6 Prout Bridge, offering activities and support for the whole community from age 0 to forever! During the two years we have been active as a charity running the youth club, we have had the opportunity to talk to the local community and believe that there is an opportunity to offer more activities, facilities and services to the town and the surrounding areas, particularly for children, young people and their families and carers but also for the broader population of all ages. Our recent consultation with local residents showed that there is huge support for this idea and we are in a process with Dorset County Council to take over the lease for the building which will enable our plans to become reality. We have no intention of competing with or replacing activities, services or facilities that are already on offer, but instead we want to work closely in partnership with current providers, supporting them whilst offering new things where there are gaps.
Our vision for the future is that we can create a building that will become a thriving and welcoming place for the whole community to share and enjoy, where people can come and chat, make friends, get help and advice. It will offer high quality, affordable clubs, activities, services and facilities that support people of all ages and backgrounds in our town and nearby. Some of these will be provided by our charity and there will also be opportunities for people to provide services that will be hosted by us and a hub for small businesses to hire workspace. This project, our Community Hub for Beaminster and the surrounding area, is to be called THE PROUT BRIDGE PROJECT.
Through our consultation people asked for arts, crafts and music clubs, community events, sports and exercise activities, school holiday clubs, skills training, the youth club and much more but we would welcome ongoing suggestions from the public as to What would you like to be able to do? What activities and facilities should we try to offer? Please do get in touch to let us know…
All this wouldn’t be possible without the support we have received over the past 2 years from local businesses and the Town Council and their continued support is invaluable. However, we will need continued financial support to cover the running costs for the building and pay our staff who put on the activities. It is important to us that the activities on offer are all accessible and affordably priced. We would also like to make major structural changes to the inside of the building which will enable greater, much more useable spaces for the future.
There are three ways you can support this project:
